Have you ever considered how you would have answered Jesus' question in Matthew 16:15? Not what you've been taught but who has He been in personal experience? For me He's been my peace, savior, healer, and anchor of my soul. He is my redeemer, my strong tower, a very present help, my shield, fortress, and refuge. Jesus is a reflection of God our Father and the Anointed One.
I find that the names of God are also great descriptors.
Adonai - The Lord - God is Master and Lord. God is our total authority.
Elohim - The All Powerful One - The Creator
El Roi - The God Who Sees Me
El Shaddai - The All Sufiient One, The God of the Mountains, God Almighty
Immanuel - God With Us, "I Am"
Jehovah (YHWH) - "I Am," The One Who Is The Self-Existent One"
Jehovah Rapha - The Lord Who Heals
Jehovah Rohi - The Lord is my Shepherd
Jehovah Tsidkenu - The Lord Our Righteousness
Who do YOU say that He is??????
Wow! I was so amazed to learn the Latin root to the word religion.
Religion comes from the root "re" which means again and "ligare" which means to bind. Together, religion means a return to bondage. Isn't that so true? When we follow religion instead of a relationship with God, we focus our efforts on what WE do instead of what JESUS did. There is so much bondage that comes when we try to earn our righteousness and think we can do it better than Jesus. Another way of saying it would be that religion is a return to operating under the law. Thankfully, Jesus fulfilled the law and redeemed us from it therefore we don' have to operate that way any longer. After this, I know that I'll never look at the word "religion" the same again! :-)
